Doesn't look too different from the RF-1000, anyone got one yet?

Saw this review - "middle path between X-11 racing helmet and TRZ full touring design.....conforms to Snell M2010 standards....Five different shell sizes are produced for the RF-1100 to conform to the new Snell standards...."

Thanks Fred, looks like that might be my next one when it's time to replace mine in a couple years.

at the moto gp i made it to the arai booth and was able to get fitted. wow, will definitely get another arai even though i'm currently using shoei rf-1000

Sitting here comparing my 1000 to the pic - the front vent, under the shield, seems slightly redesigned. On the 1000 the rear 'spoiler' is an added on piece where it looks like the rear of the helmet is shaped differently to incorporate it in to the one-piece shell. Ought to be quieter. For what you can see from the pics the rear exhaust vents look different.

It'll sure be on my list to look at next time.

Great looking helmets, just wish I had a "Shoei" head. Mine seems to work with Arai more comfortably.

Shoei re-shaped the liner of their helmets several years ago to "better fit the North American market". If it's been awhile since you tried on a Shoei, it might now be a better fit?

Withought knowing exactly what a Shoei-Head is,,,,,the measurement around my head is 59.5 cm, and calls for a Large Shoei. My wife uses a Large RF-1000, and there is no way I can use that helmet. I use an XL RF-1000. So a guess a Shoei Head must be round, and a non Shoei Head oblong ;-)

I'm looking for a helmet now; smart, washable linings, integral sun sheild, QUIET, and one that doesn't only rely on a pin-lock fog sheild to prevent misting up on cold mornings. I also want a visor that stays put at the angle where I want it: a visor the rain doesn't pour down the inside of as soon as you crack it for ventilation in the wet.

The Honda dealer stockist salesperson (modern, ain't I?) said the new Shoei would do it.

It looked nice, felt nice, and seemed expensive although I'm also looking at Shuebeth S1-Pro but had trouble getting my sweede into it.

I'm looking forward to the verdict, or opinion anyone?

Something Shoei will never put into their helmets is the integral sun shield. The drop down internal sun visor like Schuberth uses makes the helmet incapable of passing Snell standards. Shoei will never go there.

Thanks. I didn't know that. Shame, too as I like the sun sheild because I can't wear sunglasses throughout the commute: sunny, murky, woodland shade, sunny, etc. The sun sheild is quick and easy to slot up or down. It's probably a 'must have' for me now.

Cheers.

You might look at the new HJC IS-16. I was very concerned about it being only DOT certified. I called and talked to HJC to see if the IS-16 would also pass the European standards. They told me that is would.

The IS-16 is a very nice helmet - fully removable and washable liner and pads, for treated front shield, comes with both a cover that goes under the chin and a breath guard around the mouth and nose. It is also rather light. Has integrated 3 position visor.

You might give Todd at the Helmet Harbor a call (www.helmetharbor.com). He was very helpful and knowledgeable about the helmets and the new snell 2010 standards.

I really like the fit and finish on the IS-16 and at under $200 its a great deal.

I have ridden with the IS16 for just over the year; excellent for the money if 'unrefined' in the wet but you get what you pay for. The removable pads are good - they go in the tumble dryer, too but noise and the effect of the ST screen even on low settings has always concerned me in the wrong wind. The anti-fog/ventilation is poor and needs full-on air so worse in winter trying to huncker down below a 3/4 screen. (So very good but has limitations I hope to overcome with a bigger budget). There are some reviews in the forums, I think, that might help you decide.

How about the Schuberth C3 ?

Yes. Thanks for the thought. I've had a look at this and the BMW counterpart but I can't be sure why I'd need the helmet to split open. Even at service stations I don't remove my helmet (gloves, glasses, ear plugs, neck buff, and recently the residues of the last flu' induced sneeze) because their instructional signs are positioned after filling and I'm yet to find anyone push me to beyond a tentative, "um...", and I'm finding more 'pay at the pump'.

They certainly look and feel a quality helmet and so they should at around ?400. The S1-pro looks sleek but is darn difficult to on/off through the noise cheating stuffing at it's neck. My worry is paying the money and still not seeing once the rain comes in.

The Shoei was starting to sound attractive, too :( More shopping around to do and Autumn Fall is already nipping...

The Shoei really is a superb helmet, the best I have found so far for me. I have just gotten my 2nd RF1000, and had an RF900 before that.

The sunvisor not being there is disappointing but not a deal breaker.

I had a RFR before and it's crazy how much quieter the RF1000's are. The 1100's must have stealth mode.
