Back story: A new to me 2010 purchased from multibrand dealer with less than 10K miles. Bike ran great until one hot summer 100 mile ride when the power started to intermittently drop out under load and with minor hiccups at steady state.
Replaced pump, filter, sock and gasket with a Quantum pump kit. Lower tank and pump/filter components were coated with a crusty, flaky varnish. It was obvious a tank of fuel had evaporated while the bike had sat not used. I scrubbed it out and cleaned all components before reassembly with the new kit.
Bike has performed without flaw for the last 10K miles, now at 22K.
Until this last trip. 100 miles from home at the end of a 2100 mile mostly interstate trip pulling a 400lb camping trailer, I started losing power which got progressively worse as time and miles went by. I could not accelerate without the engine cutting out. I was down to about 60MPH in some hilly country outside of Beaver. Utah. This went on for 30 miles or so.
I stopped in Beaver and added about 3.2 gallons US to the tank filling it up. Ambient air temp has been in the 50's and 60's most of the trip.
When I got back on the I15 there were no further issues and full power was restored.
Any thoughts from the wisdom of the list?
