Another pump issue?

Back story: A new to me 2010 purchased from multibrand dealer with less than 10K miles. Bike ran great until one hot summer 100 mile ride when the power started to intermittently drop out under load and with minor hiccups at steady state.

Replaced pump, filter, sock and gasket with a Quantum pump kit. Lower tank and pump/filter components were coated with a crusty, flaky varnish. It was obvious a tank of fuel had evaporated while the bike had sat not used. I scrubbed it out and cleaned all components before reassembly with the new kit.

Bike has performed without flaw for the last 10K miles, now at 22K.

Until this last trip. 100 miles from home at the end of a 2100 mile mostly interstate trip pulling a 400lb camping trailer, I started losing power which got progressively worse as time and miles went by. I could not accelerate without the engine cutting out. I was down to about 60MPH in some hilly country outside of Beaver. Utah. This went on for 30 miles or so.

I stopped in Beaver and added about 3.2 gallons US to the tank filling it up. Ambient air temp has been in the 50's and 60's most of the trip.

When I got back on the I15 there were no further issues and full power was restored.

Any thoughts from the wisdom of the list?

...waiting for Larry to put the snakes down, and show up here.

The obvious initial thought is, a bad tank of fuel? How many miles since you got home, with "no issues?"

I did a word search this site for the word "Quantum" and see several posts regarding Quantum hoses going bad after being submersed. May want to check that out.

A number of aftermarket fuel pumps have been shipped with hoses that are not designed for immersion in gasoline. This is a known issue and several folks have discovered the problem the hard way. After two or three months, the hose will swell, collapse or rupture. Once the hose starts deteriorating, it will not heal itself, so your symptoms don't sound like this is the problem. Pulling the cover of the lower fuel tank requires (I think) replacement of the gasket. Not a big deal, but were I you, I'd PM @Igofar and discuss this with him.

For the reasons above, I don't buy a pump 'kit', just the pump. I buy hoses of the proper ID for Honda cars using submersible pumps. Never an issue with decaying hoses inside the fuel tank.
