A couple of weeks ago I picked up both my ST1300 and ST1100 from a mechanic Buena Park, John Wear. John is the guy who installed the Traxxion upgrades on my 2008 Gl1800 awhile ago. This time he installed the McCruise cruise control on the ST1300 and serviced it fully as well as fully servicing and cleaning carburetors on the ST1100. As of right now all three bikes are serviced and ready to ride for the first time in years.
Initially I bought the McCruise a year ago and was going to try the install myself but was unable to find the time. I had read the instructions which were phenomenal. In fact McCruise could easily go into the technical writing business if they did the install manual.
I cannot believe how well that the cruise control functions on the bike. There is zero hesitation, no slow downs or hiccups. It works far more smoothly than the one on my Goldwing. I am still on the fence about whether I am keeping the ST1100 but if I do I am definitely getting the McCruise for it as well. Another good thing is the backlit controls.IMG_7342.jpeg

I've been an MCCruise fan for many years (they are on all 4 of my ST1100s).
Years ago when I was installing my first one I emailed them with an issue I was having installing the CIU.
A few hours later my phone range in the Holler and it was one of the brothers from Australia calling to help me through it.
When I got my fourth one, they said I was the first human on the planet to install their new electronic actuator on a ST1100 (my fourth install). ;)

I installed them on my '03 and Maggie's '05. Great additions that really contributed to our riding enjoyment on long trips. Like Uncle Phil, I had a couple of conversations with the lads down under and they were both friendly and very helpful.

Something that may or may not be known about the MCCruise -
It was designed from the ground up as a motorcycle cruise control not a modified automotive cruise control.
The brothers (Tony and Frank) have some amazing stories about their early 'testing' - especially why they don't use a beaded chain for throttle control ... ;)

If you don't mind, what is that reason?

I know why it's needed with servos that cannot have the cable pushed in.

They said in their early testing with a chain setup that it somehow got wrapped around the throttle arm and they couldn't shut off the throttle.
So they nixed that idea and came up with the CIU - or so the Internet says according to Abraham Lincoln .... ;)

I installed my McCruise myself almost 2 years ago and have enjoyed it immensly ever since. Without a doubt it is the best CC I've ever had in any type of vehicle. I also installed their speedo correction at the same time, and my speedometer is now dialed in to the correct speed. They are outstanding products!

I got bitten by the sport-touring bug before I got my first ST, so I put a Rostra on my '96 Nighthawk.

I got it to work as well as the factory CC in my Accord, and I saved around $1K, which is a lot to me.

The secret is telling the Rostra that you have a large engine, which tells it the power-to-weight ratio.

When I got my first two MCCruises the price was around $550 - the USD was strong against the AUD.
I could not have went the Rostra route and saved much money at all at the time (I did check). ;)
Most folks were going the Audiovox route which was a royal pain in the anatomy to get the bellcrank lever correct on the ST1100.
And once I got the MCCruises and saw what a splendid unit it was and how good the instructions and support were, that cinched the deal for me going forward.

I have no doubts that theirs is the ultimate unit, and I would get one if I could afford it.

I'd rather put my money toward the two STOC events I attend, and maybe add a third.

Saved 1K - how long ago did you get it?
FWIW, the last one I bought in 2019 was less than 1K total shipped to my house - with the electronic actuator.
Right now they are around $1,300 AUD which is about $800 USD if I looked at it correctly.
IIRC, they don't give the Rostra unit away either and all the other stuff you need ain't free - unless you sneak up on one on EBay.
As I said, the exchange rate is what greatly influences the MCCruise price.

FYI... For those with recent MC Cruise hardware, you may find, like me, that the button functions are not the same as your CC equipped automobile.

As delivered, my MC Cruise combines the SET with ACCELERATE and RESUME with DECELERATE. That's the opposite of every Honda auto I've ever owned where SET/DECEL and RES/ACCEL are the norm.

You can change this on your MC Cruise by getting into some obscure settings on its control unit, but it wasn't hard. I have posted those directions previously and will again if asked.

And the current MC Cruise ditched words on the control pod for some symbols with no intrinsic meaning. I made labels for mine which I'd be happy to share with those that want them. Just PM me. Black on white, or white on black.

I guess you're right, and it was many years ago. I recon saved more like $500.

The total cost was around $300 for the entire installation. I used a Trailtech switch:
