"" Post the lowest temp you've ridden in for more than a few miles for the this* winter. Extra details would be nice, but not required, i.e. gear worn, where you went, etc. I'll post the names and temps of the top 10 in this first post, as they are generated. Also... no windchill, no handicap and no participation trophies! Don't hesitate to correct me if I miss someone or make a mistake. "

All temps in Fahrenheit

From Paul " I'll start... I rode 27 miles to work yesterday morning and it was 46°F when I started. Didn't pull out my electric gear yet, just wore my Tourmaster Transition 4 jacket and Caliber pants, with liners. "

" Ride safe and stay warm out there. ""

Welcome cold riding fans, jumping in to get it started. Get out the opossum sox!
Rules above, 2023-24 results.

(I'm busier this year than I have been in quite a while, patience please.)

Weather Under Ground (wunderground.com) says my commute yesterday was 34° at 8am.
Ride home was 38° at 6pm. Not really worth mentioning but just to get on the list...

My only concession to temperature was to pull out the medium-cold gloves and long undies under the jeans. That's my at-or-just-above-freezing setup. I have other gloves, and boots to pull out along with Klim bibs and heated grips for when it gets colder.

I'll keep quiet until a dry-roads, below 10° day happens to line up with my need to go somewhere.

Remember to put the tally post as the first one on the thread so we can see the top temps by just doing a hover-over on the post's forum listing. Right now, hover-over shows the list from your old post with rules. Maybe just edit so the current top 10 is first and the old post is after.

Today's ride was warmer at 37. We have some 20's coming in next week they are predicting. After a high of 60 Monday lol

Someone with forum super powers did it for me, but I would have. (Thanks Joe?)

Welcome back all - I'll try something new this year. Instead of the hack with hand mits and a whole bunch of gear, some heated. I'll try a KLR 650 with wrap around hand mits and a leg cover or lap skirt whatever you call these things. Would have been nice last week going into work with frost exposing itself in my headlights, fortunately not on the road, but I'll test it today above freezing and hope I can get it out on the icy gravel road some day when we start getting proper winter here. And of course I can get warm again in my backyard tent sauna. Just put that up last evening to fend off fall aches and pains that go along with being old enough to enjoy the boring-ness of a KLR 65020241124_124236.jpg20241124_080019.jpg

The KLR worked just fine today coming home from work at 22 F. Then tried out the R1150RT and it worked pretty well too. Neither qualified as a proper 100 mile ride with the ton involved, although I did have to test the RT's new tires to check balance at ton speeds briefly. They passed! RT was possibly a little better on the feet, but not nearly as nice on the hands as having hand muffs for the hands. Looks like the RT is getting hand muffs.... Hard to say which provided better core warmth.

But I actually preferred my morning commute on an ebike at about seventeen Fahrenheit. That's a pedal bike so I'm making heat using it. Cheating I'd say for my interpretation of the Paulcb rules. And a light tail breeze made it, well a breeze!

I'll take a 19⁰F, Please.

My commute on Tuesday started at 18⁰F and ending at 19⁰F when I got to work a half hour later.
Still just stage 1 cold gear--long underwear, heavy socks, warm gloves--but I needed the handlebar heaters on for the fingers.
When it gets really cold (under 10⁰F) I'm good everywhere but the hands with just my Klim snowmobile setup. In years past I added the bar muffs but didn't like the bulk and getting in to them. But heated bars and muffs with light gloves is pretty ideal. May go that way again but for now I have a set of gloves with batteries and heaters internal. Still haven't needed them this winter.

Picked up some newly shoed rims for the KTM Duke 390 on the way home.

That's what I like about the KemiMoto bar muffs. The opening is stiff so they stay open to easily slide the hands in without hassle. Yet close enough to keep our the cold air.
