Which Radar Detector?? Just in case!

The V1 is also updated from your phone via Bluetooth. It only needs to be sent in for hardware upgrades as new tech becomes available. I ran my original V1 for 30 years. Then traded it on the V1 Gen 2 when it became available.

Having only bought 1 new unit in 30 years and that was not even at full price was a bargain. I can't tell you how many new units friends have bought during that same time. I can't drop $400 - $600 every time a new model comes out to keep the latest innovations in radar detection.
My V1 must be close to 20 years old. Got it out and dusted it off a few months ago, and called Valentine about what has been upgraded.
I was told to bring it current would be about $500, best I can remember. I put it back in the drawer; the upgrade would be about what I paid for it new, all those years ago. While I'd like to add it to the cockpit, I find I don't speed that much anymore, at least not as much as before. These days I'm more interested in maintaining 40+ mpg, which isn't possible at supra-interstate speeds over long distances.
The "improper passing", however is still a weakness.
(Whaddya mean, double-yellow for miles? I can get around these slow-moving, lost sightseers in less than 50 feet, and I can see down the road for 2 miles! I got all dang day to pass.)

Sounds like Valentine has done a lot of good upgrades on the G2. I've owned only four RDs so far going back to the mid 90s starting with an escort 8500 (which I sent in to have upgraded to the x50 version) then I scored a used Escort 9500ix because they installed a bunch of K-emitting traffic speed measuring cams on my commute, the GPS lockouts were a partial solution to that. Later I traded in my 8500 x50 to escort toward an Escort Redline. It was game changing at the time, and compared to my riding buddy's V1G1, could pick up signals a mile earlier. I still use that one but the k-band trash from cars with adaptive CC and blind spot monitoring will drive you nuts. luckily they really don't use K-band in California so I've just shut that band off along with X. I'm well pleased with my current R7, last summer crossing Nevada (granted some pretty wide open territory), I picked up a NST from over 12 miles away!
Yes they have. Same wide open spaces but in Arizona. Came up to a Arizona Trooper shooting away from me several miles out. So I decided to check the range after I passed him to get his full on beam. Now keep in mind I was now tracking him with the rear antenna "seeing" through the vehicle (SUV) with the back loaded but the rear window was not completely covered up. I lost his constant signal at 14.5 miles around several bends and one slight crest. I continued to get a "hit" from him (same frequency behind) for another couple miles.

I won't drive/ride without my V1G2.

I run an app for the V1 called JBV1, a Waze-like app. It taps faa database to give alerts of bears in the air and crowd-source warnings of objects in the road, traffic, cars on shoulder, police traps, etc. The detector shows warnings on screen which I hear through my headset via Android auto. No need to wire the V1 into my system.

It's a great setup.

That may have been before they implemented a trade in policy on the older V1 towards the V1G2. $499 is the cost on a new V1G2. Trading in an old one will save you $100.

Wow!
Looks like the time to revisit their Sales line on the phone.
I thank you for that info.
