As a qualified & signed up First Responder... I agree completely....stuff...
I've seen my fair share of road accidents, single & multi vehicle. An air bag isn't worth the money, in my eyes.

Whereas I don't have an airbag and have never thought of one, after reading this post I'm going to look into one.Well, I cannot imagine that the authorities who sanction and operate high level motorcycle racing would make airbags mandatory - if they were useless.
Anyhow, as was stated, to each his own.
Yet you did.I'm not even sure how to respond to this. So I won't. To each his own.
Mr.Hom, I am pleased you put the professional first responder case forward, they pretty much mirror my views (those reached after 30 plus years of attending KSI RTC's) that your protection pounds may be better spent. I do stress though, MAY. I wonder if there is an element of riders feeling safer wearing air systems that give them the confidence to go and ride, which can't be a bad thing.Yet you did.
In a racing accident, the rider rarely comes to an abrupt stop, and never has to think about road furniture. In these scenarios, where the only real issue is sliding along tarmac/gravel/grass, a worn airbag makes loads of sense.
In a road situation, coming off the bike isn't the problem. The issue is what happens after the initial impact.
I agree, each to his own. I don't ride on a race circuit, and as such, would rather invest the money where I think it'll benefit me.
Of course, in the future, the authorities may decide for me, and mandate their use much like helmets. We're not there yet though, so you guys can be the "test pilots" and I'll observe.
Or denied.Upt' North said:they certainly require much more rigorous testing in real world environments before any benefit can be claimed.
Ray, don't know if it was a statement or a question, but yes there has been an airbag recall for some time, Honda cars are badly affected amongst others. Some bags have been known to have defective firing mechanisms which when fired dislodge metal shards that get fired straight at the occupants. I don't know how common the fault is but the global recalls enormous and will take years to complete. Some people have died from Takata airbags?
