Cabot trail warning

While i had a great 2 days riding the cabot trail, i should warn anyone heading there to be careful, especially on bridges. The winter wasn't kind to some of them and there are some nasty potholes. It's still early in the year so they may get out and fix them yet. This was from the bridge over Margueree harbour, going north (clockwise)PXL_20250529_201431487.jpg

Yep, but could have been worse. After the impact, I knew there was going to be damage so I just paid close attention to the TPMS and my pressure never dropped and I quickly forgot about it. It didn't ruin my trip and I can easily fix the rim next time I have the wheel off for a tire change. It only bent on one side
 
Very low profile tires are common on today's cars. The wheels get damaged fairly easily. Most larger centers have places that repair damage such as yours for a relatively reasonable cost.
 
Because the rim only bent on one side, i would think that the circumference of the rim likely isnt distorted. When I remove the tire, i can setup a dial indicator to measure where the runout is, but I suspect that it is only the side of the "bead" that is flared out a bit. I think with a bit of heat and some persuasion, I can straighten it. Im surprised it didnt ruin the tire.

My only real issue with that is I am likely far from a large enough center to have a repair shop (maybe Halifax) and with shipping what it is these days, it may mean getting another wheel would be cheaper. I will keep an eye out for another wheel. While I am confident that I can fix this, I have been considering getting a spare set of rims to get the most out of my tires. So if I have to get another wheel, Im fine with that. I can then have my original rim fixed at my leisure (assuming I cant fix it myself).
With the way some of the roads are on the east coast, perhaps wheel repair shops are common... Ill find out I guess
 
I keep thinking about a member that crushed a rim on Hwy 108 in NB on the way to NFLD a few years ago. I have been up and down that road a dozen times or so in my pickup and every time i do, I think "OMG , i could never ride a bike down this road" Im sure this person didnt realize this at the time and they will likely never do it again. It is nice and smooth in the winter when the holes are full of snow... LOL

Sorry about your luck. Yes, the roads here can be terrible at times. You would think we don't pay any taxes to repair the roads???

I thought Moncton had a few places to straighten rims? Take a look and I'll ask around here also....

Oh, they were warned that was a logging road… use to drive the “Renous highway” quite a bit back in the day. Sketchy at best.
