Thought I'd start a new thread and see if anyone knows the current situation with gasoline quality, composition, additive and so forth as it pertains to some of these older [all STs are old now] bikes.
I've let turning over fuel in some vehicles sit longer than I should especially since not having ethanol free gas available and have been surprised at the results - for the good.
Most recently I rode my ST with gas that had been sitting in the lower tank for eight months.
There must be some improvements or enhancements made with additives or blends since changing over to all fuel having ethanol content.

You can see here:

I use Wawa non-E regular in my 1100s and Amoco premium in my 1300.

All run well and, unlike my Nighthawk 750, don't seem to suffer from sitting.

Amoco has been making their lead-free premium for well over 100 years.

I think that's an older post about ethanol free gas that I may have read a couple years back, my understanding now is that non ethanol in my area hasn't been available for about a year; Shell and Chevron were the last hold outs, wasn't real impressed with Chevron having delayed notifiying people that their 94 was no longer ethanol free until three or four months after the fact, but I haven't had any problems with fuel since the change
Not so surprised with any FI systems, but even my sixty year old two barrel rochester and four barrel spread bore carbs are not fouling separating and crystalizing in the bowls.

I can think of two options.
* Move to an area you can ride eight months of the year.
* Buy STA-BIL and pour it in before the eight month hibernation.

Fortunately, down here in south Texas (twelve month riding season), we have a
Buc-ee’s close by, that has ethanol free gas (as many do).

Or maybe I misunderstood the post :)

I bought a '69 GS 350 drivetrain for this car a few years back, never had any doubt that it would be a good project; never thought I'd live long enough that I would be able to build an entire vehicle on a box and pan brake, but, here we are.
