New to site, Need help ST 1300

Should it be moving when parked on center stand applying font then rear brake. Or does the bike need to be moving for the SMC to be functioning.
Yes, the motorcycle needs to be moving. The SMC's function is fully dependent on the forward rotation of the left front wheel brake disc.
Have a look at the below for a quick SMC functional test and an article on more in depth brake inspection procedures;

what you might be hearing is the balance adjusters. If they are out of adjustment the bike sounds like gravel rattling around during acceleration. If you have a service manual read up on them and how to adjust. If you don't have service manual I suggest you acquire one.

SMC functional test. Will do the test soon as I get help to put on center stand. My neighbor helps me every day when he returns from work. Information is helpful so will have to see if it's the problem. Just came back from another test ride and was hard on the rear brake coming back through the city. Front end squats down and grabs well when I hit rear brake. Rear brake was hot but not so as you could not hold fingers on it for a bit.
 
A worn front tire will howl and whine under load. Check the dates on the tires and the front tire for cupping.
Front tire looks fine but could of been damaged from being redden with 7psi. Just rode it a while ago with a bit of wind blowing and bike seems to wonder a bit hot or cold. There is no tire noise to speak of. The noise starts after it's been ridden for a while...gets hot and its more of a bearing steady noise or it seem that way. Tire date 2021, installed 2022.

If you think you have a bearing issue, check the Drive Flange Bearings. There should be a write up on this forum about how to check and change them. My ST1300 went thru a couple of sets in the 12 years I owned the bike, until I replace with a double wide bearing.

If your unfamiliar with the (SMC) secondary master cylinder, Tom has a great video on how it functions, see the attached video.
What I do is a temperature check on my front and rear discs after a short ride to see if they are all the same temperature.
When I do this test I only use the front lever for this temperature test.

When using just the front lever, the only braking power to the rear disc is through the SMC.

 
Balancers on my list soon as I can get at them. Too much to do but seems I just get slower with every passing year.

You can access the balancers by removing the lower inner cowl only, but first time is easier if you remove the left middle cowl as well (large panel).

This guy is removing all the plastic but does a decent job showing how to remove the fairing in the process (mirror cover comes off easier with a good forward wack though....and there should be a tether for it).


Installing the panels back for the first time is more tedious, but there is excellent doc here.


Removing the fairing on a "new" bike is often a good idea to assess status (and often find out how many fasteners might be missing!)

Definite possibility and was thinking that myself. Just need to make time to go over everything.

Just tested the SMC to see if there was any movement. Bike on sidestand and managed to move it in about 1/8 by hand so we know it's not seized. Will do a proper test soon.
 
All sounds normal for a ST1300. My NC700X is locomotive stable compared to a ST1300 on the highway and I logged 180,000 miles on a great running, great handling ST1300. They move around more than many other bikes, that's well known. Don't lug it off idle to 2500 rpm, live a little and keep it between 3500 and 9350 rpm.
