Now I became unsure after ordering new tires for the 1999 ST1100AX ABS-2 …

I have ordered the following tires:
Bridgestone T 31 R GT 170/60 ZR17 TL (72W) rear wheel
Bridgestone T 31 F GT 120/70 ZR18 TL (59W) front wheel

Front tires are fine but is there room for 170/60 ZR17 on rear wheel … ?

Bridgestone UK are still losting the T31 and T32 tyres GT tyres as recommended for the ST1100 ABS models of the sizes that you quote.

There was a slight difference between the T31 and T32 - but really I would be hard pushed to tell you what it was - and it would be irrelevant anyway - I only ever used the T series tyres (T30, T31, T32) on the ST1300. The T33s were not available when I changed tyres in January, and they are not yet available for the 1100. They claim a 47% increase in tyre life.

Yes the 170/60 will work fine with very little issues - done it before.
No effect on the ABS system at all.
A little bit straighter up on the sidestand but not very noticeable.

I had 190/60 on the rear with some slight mods , handled great

The one I like is revolutions per mile. This is not only critical to tire wear, but also the feeling on your butt on the road. A slower moving tire is smoother to ride. And you are losing almost 10% in sidewall height. That's gonna make the bike sit lower in the rear. And sidewall height is critical on the ST1100 for you guessed it, rider comfort. I'm on my second ST1100 now. I need tires this year, too. Every time I wear them out I buy another set of OEM sized Bridgestone Exedras. I've learned through the strangest issues not to mess with factory dimensions.

Can you still get them over there?
Here they seem to have finally "banned" them (likely lobbying by Bridgestone.de marketing division attempting to boost the sales of tires providing only half of the mileage to double the turnover...); can't get hold of a front G547 110/80 anywhere... :(

Here are some details I haven't thought about that are very important and especially important over time. I don't want to change the bike's handling for the worse, which is what I'm doing now by mounting 170/60 ZR17 rear tires … :x3:

Not worried about changing diameter or circumference which changes by 3% but on the other hand «Sidewall Height» which changes from 112mm to 102mm which is a whole - 10mm a reduction of 8.9% and «Width» is also + 10mm with an increase of + 6.3%. Maybe I should ask if I can change my tire order.

Also to consider how much more difficult this would make putting up the bike on the centre stand. Perhaps others that have tried this tire size can comment. I’ve only run OEM sizes.
