Helmets Skully's head-turning new motorcycle helmet

Veddy intrestink. Way cool but I don't know much about their helmets and that's the most important part of the deal. Beta testing would be way cool too. I wonder if you have to buy the helmet first albeit with a discount. I've always like the idea of an HUD since Timerider.

I'm guessing price will be close to $1500.

Just saw/read about this helmet in the February- Popular Science Magazine.

Well, I'm definitely I'm the market for a new helmet. I wonder how long we'll have to wait for this.

Re: Skully Helmet with HUD, now taking applications to Beta Test

The Skully got a short bit on the NBC Nightly News on Tuesday. $3,000 was the price estimate mentioned. Looks like it could take some getting used to. The image in the small rear view screen is REceeding while the image through the face shield is PROceeding. Kinda confusing to my ageing brain. And why is this better than a couple of mirrors like I have now?

Maybe "better" is subjective, but the helmet's camera offers a 180 degree field of view behind you. It's intended to eliminate blind spots. I don't know how effective that is, but I like the idea. Given that the rear view is projected in front of you (to one side) you don't need to take your eyes off the road in your direction of travel, as you would if you swiveled your head, or moved your head to look at your mirrors.

I also like that the GPS can be projected onto the heads up display. We wouldn't need to lower our eyes to look at the GPS.

All of that may be a small incremental improvement to our riding experience and safety. Maybe not. At the right price, I'd be quite interested. I don't think I'm $3K interested, but I'd be tempted at $1K if the helmet protection itself is excellent.

+1 - though I'd consider up to $1500. At $3k, I don't see Skully selling a lot of these.
