ST1100 Luggage rack

That is pretty cool, and functional.
 
after taking a good look, there does not seem to be a front mounting area which might make it a bit flimsy. What a pain to get something quick out of the saddle bag when you are packed

I thought the same thing, its hard to tell from the photo angle how easily you could slip your hand in there to operate the latches. I'm guessing a side view would show there to be just barely enough room, but from the angle shown I'm not so sure. There is room next to the seat to slip your fingers in there and unlatch, but you'd need a second hand to re-latch them to close, and depending on what you have on the side racks it could be problematic to gain access.
 
There is a smaller version of this that can also be combined with a top box. I plan to install a luggage rack that can be used when needed since I don't want a top box. But it is possible to use the hooks on the seat without a luggage rack. This is the only one I can find when searching online, that is, the only variant unless I make one myself :)
