Article [13] ST1300 - Stebel Horn Install

Re: Stebel Horn Install

I found a Compact Air Horn that looks just like the Stebel at Harbor Freight Tools.
It's a Wolo Bad Boy $39.99 it's just as loud, why pay for the Stebel name that you don't see anyway.

Re: Stebel Horn Install

Dano,

Just wanted to thank you for the great wright up on the installation of the Stebel horn. I just installed mine took me about 1 1/2 hours to complete with no problems. I used the Eastern Beaver wire harness and relay, it was so easy just plug and play into your stock wires. I ran the main power right off the battery and placed the relay on the right side of the engine just in front of the middle frame section as this was the only place with the length of the power wire. I do love the sound of the horn as it is LOUD!!:22yikes: I look forward to using it out on the road!! :D:D

Re: Stebel Horn Install

Good write up and pictures. Lots of help.

For those of us, like me, who are lazy and don't want to remove all of the tupperware, it should be noted that it can be done that way. I never even pulled the windshield off. My inner cowls are already removed for the summer, I loosened up the black trim under the windshield and pulled the bolts and front fasteners off of the tupperware. The right side covers pulled back enough to allow drilling, mounting and wiring the horn system into place.

I LIKE it. Glad I wear earplugs!:D

You could always split the compressor and horn to give you more mounting options. It slides apart pretty easy, just two plastic reataining snaps. I think George came up with the idea.

Re: Stebel Horn Install

Does this mean we can do some plumbing work and have our on board compressor for our tires, too?
Does anyone know the pressure output of this compressor or if this is a viable option?

Now I know what the black plastic part is for. Too bad they don't give good directions with the horn.

Re: Stebel Horn Install

It would be higher volume and lower pressure than a piston tire pump.
Hmmm... might pull double duty as a air matress inflator LOL.

Re: ST1300-Stebel Horn Install

This artical is still very useful, I used it and just put my Stebel on after it sitting on my shelf for a while. Thanks for the info.

I spent more than that on wire and a relay to make my own harness, looks like a easy way to do it.

Re: ST1300-Stebel Horn Install

Tis already manh?na for our Aussie friends . . . maybe she'll let ya get in on one of the "End of the Year" discounts, considering it's already 2010 down south???

:p:

Re: ST1300-Stebel Horn Install

2006 to 2010; that says to me this is the horn and the way to install it? I've lurked here for 18-months and today found a Compact and spent 25% extra getting a 20A fuse, cable, and crimp connectors.

Plan is to use insulating tape on the OEM relay, which I learned about how it operates here, and the suggested Dano mount position. Challenges might be the HID ballest hanging on the same position but I have zip ties enough to modify that. The idea of mounting the horns via a tube is in reserve, too.

Thanks all contributors, and I'll post progress as it's made. I can't wait to try it out in combat - I've had a fair few times I wish I'd had it installed just this New year alone!

It'd best be as loud as you guys say......

Re: ST1300-Stebel Horn Install

If the relay is mounted "Pins down" they are less likely to get water in them. BTW, Bikerhiway is the best place to get the Stebel, in stock and Price with shipping. willy
