Uncle Phil hit a deer

I'll take a ride up there this summer. I'll have the NT broke in a couple of days, look for me in July, and I want some fried chicken at Loveless.
Loveless has kind of gone downhill a bit.
The last time I was in there the chicken looked like and tasted like it was from the day before and they threw back in the oil and burnt it.
I reckon I'll be here all of July except the 14th - got a doctor's appointment that day.

Sorry to hear you had a deer encounter Uncle Phil, but super-glad you had the vest on and it did its job. It's comforting to know all those miles I've worn mine were for a reason, and I'm with you on tethers vs programmers.
I had to have the zipper replaced on my Helite jacket so I have the contact info for the guy in charge of the US sales in case you'd like to talk sizing with someone at Helite. (Assuming you need a new one.) Maybe the pros can be helpful.
Get well soon.

Oh no - just seeing this now.

I sure hope he's OK - please pass along my best wishes.

Pete
I don't know if I'm okay at this point or not but I'm still ticking.
I may change my name to Uncle Timex ...

I land like a pigeon, then roll.....

Splat.............. ow, ow, ow, ow.....

Did that last year when I had a low side on a bend on what we call "Shell grip".... that's a high friction road surface coating.... still have no idea how I managed it at 25mph......

Glad you survived that get off. Or should we say fly off? Sounds like you didn't even have time to say "Oh, s**t!" before impact. Prayers for healing and also for your families emotional recovery after getting that phone call from the authorities! Was that a buck or a doe?

No clue as we parted company pretty quickly ... ;)

A friend had a one year old Turtle 2 for sale and this latest incident convinced me to move on it. Brought it home last night.
Smart move. UP's accident didn't turn out perfect, but it did minimize some of the pain and suffering he's gone through. It's been a year now since my accident in Northern California.

My dash cam on that bike took pictures at 30 frames per second. Not per minute. Let that settle in for a moment. It only recorded 4 frames after I hit the metal pole. The first was me landing on the ground with my Hit-Air MLV-P airbag vest fully deployed. I still can't fully understand the level of violence that happened just then. I hit the ground. Somewhere in that timeframe, my helmet hit with part of it crushed internally from the force. And my 500 lb motorcycle was catapulted in the air behind me about 35 ft away pointing in the opposite direction.

The ER doc told me that he's normally sewing the accident victim's liver back together from an accident like mine. With me, they kept me for about 3 hours for observation and then let me go. No pain meds, nothing.

I feel like the good Lord sent an angel to protect me. I also credit that airbag vest for doing its part. Normally, one of those airbag vests will inflate, cushion the fall, and then slowly deflate. Mine hit so hard that it had about a 4 inch jagged tear in it from where it popped on impact. Yet it saved my life. I probably would not be alive if the airbag vest hadn't done its job.

It is one of the best investments in riding gear I've ever made.

Pick up a couple of spare CO2 cartridges. Once you get used to wearing the vest you will feel 'naked' without it.

It comes with one spare, not a bad idea to pick up another. I need a second tether before that.

And weigh the cartridges yearly to ensure they are still fully charged. I use the kitchen digital scale and found the weight is just as advertised on the decal.
