Has anybody tried updating their Garmin maps using Garmin Express under Windows 10? When I try to download to my computer, I cannot change the drive destination and it defaults to a drive that does not exist. My laptop which is still W7 seemed to update with no problems.

You can force the Garmin to use the drive letter it is asking for. Right click the this pc icon, and then goto manage then load drive manager. Once it's scanned the drives select the Garmin theb rigjt click and select change drive letter!

I use Garmin Express to update maps to the GPS and BaseCamp, plus update the GPS firmware. I don't have to point to drives since the GPS is plugged in and BaseCamp location is known via the Registry. Are you downloading the Map data to a hard drive location? If so, what are the benefits of this?

It should be fine, as long as what he says about the drive not exsisting. just make sure it appears as a small drive not one over 8gb ;)

I have a Zumo 550 so map storage is limited. The solution around this is to load the maps to a flash card and then put the flash card in the GPS. The problem is that using GE, I don't have an option to change my drive destination. It defaults to a drive that is the slot for the flash card. I suspect that there is still a setting in the registry that is preventing me from changing the drive. Also when I start Basecamp or Mapsource, I'm prompted to insert a disk in the drive that doesn't exist. I can click ok and the program goes back to where the original maps are stored.

If you can find the gmapsgps.img file manually, all you need to do is then copy this .img file to your SD Card in the root folder named 'GARMIN' (create the folder if you did a fresh format of the SD card)

If you are already legally paying for the GPS maps, you can, without guilt, use the Garmin .img files hosted here --> http://updatedigitally.weebly.com/north-american-maps.html (use this only if you are unable to file the .img file manually, or if you're like me and feel alright using an old Nuvi 7 series GPS with maps downloaded fresh)

I've loaded 2016 North America Maps on my 32GB (overkill) SD card, and my nuvi series 7 GPS correctly identifies the map.

Hope this is helpful.

Vishnu
