What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

Reciprocity (definition):
A light, floral varietal grape, green or yellow in color, grown in the marshes of the Mississippi Delta by descendants of early French and Spanish colonists, and inept wine makers.
Known for its pungent odor, dark sediment and bitter aftertaste, it was never truly accepted by continental wine connoisseurs, and remains largely a novelty concoction consumed primarily by locals, and by unwitting gullible travelers and the occasional blind hog.

I managed to wash out my LCD screen today with a poor parking choice.

Great riding weather had me smiling again in no time.
 
Today I took advantage of cooler morning temps to ride to the local Honda dealer to test ride a 2010 ST and a 2009 BMW R1200RT. My intent was to ride them back to back, rare when a dealer has both in stock.

The RT had no mirrors. Housings, but no glass. And they intend to sell it like that. Zero clue.

The ST was nice, first time I have ridden the 1300. Great brake feel, nimble, and that V4 smoothness. But it is not the bike for me. I found it too short and compact when compared to my 1100, and just...wrong.

But at least I can now rule out a 1300 as a possible replacement when the time comes.

Still RT-curious, but no way I was riding a bike without mirrors.

But hey, the weather was beautiful, got to practice my braking for a family of deer, and put a good charge on the battery.

Mission successful.

Right after that I fixed the aftermath of a BMW X2 plowing into me in a LHS back-sweep on Sept. 4th, taking out my LH pannier...
(what miffed me the most was the caused wiring damage, hence loss of iPod tunes & FM reception for the reST of the tour... ;))

Fortunately I've loads of spares in the shelves...
New pannier hanging rail was installed in no time, replaced the Dension IceLink cable and soldered a new plug on the FM-aerial cable...
Besides a few scratches all good as new... :cool:

GPS track showed me at 40kph, 12kph the zero kph... so not much more then a "parking lot incident", but with sufficient force to shatter the inner pannier rail/hanger into 5 pieces...

Fortunately, a lot less paperwork as it happened on Italian soil...
Only that we're both insured at the same carrier... :think1:
 
Did valve clearance check yesterday evening. Found #1 intakes ,001 loose. All others in tolerance so not gonna bother.
Took this photo after changing out the hoses. The circled clamp is the potential intruder which can take out your coolant hose. AMHIK.

If not too late, replace those carb insulator clamp screws with allen heads... makes tightening a lot easier since you're not pressing on the screw head, and subsequently rotating the clamp.

To really check the under carb hoses, ya gotta pull the carbs. Only way to check the upper hose clamp isn't intruding on the lower hose. At <50,000 miles, STerling didn't have any intrusion but both of those hoses are "mushy". I'm changing them all plus new thermostat.

How funny, because I've had those carbs off and back on about 4 times. That's why I bought it cheap. I didn't see anything questionable down there. So maybe I'll hang on until winter to tear into that. It's been running really well.
 
Took our 1991 out for a ride this morning. At stops, the idle dropped waaay down and exhibited a rough exhaust note. So, I upped the idle to 1k rpm so it wouldn't die at stops, the rough sound/feel persisted. At between 2500 and 3000 rpm, it perks up, sounds fine and pulls fine. I suspect I've lost a plug or cap. Will go mining tomorrow....rain is supposed to begin and persist the remainder of the week.
