What did you do with your ST1100/ST1300 today?

Put a cheap helmet lock on the right side tip over bar. This puts it on the high side while on the sidestand, but being so low places it close to the muffler, so I may not leave it there.
Helmet extenders are cheap on Amazon, and work fine with the newer ratchet-style chinstrap on the Neo 2. I didn't think these would work without D-rings, but the only challenge is keeping up with the extender, and I've lost 2 already.
I first put this helmet lock on the GSA, and it fits the luggage rack a lot better, so now I just put the extender on my carabiner key ring.

Did some one say Helmet Locks on a ST1300?

Although I use a Tee extender.

I finished up my fork rebuild on my 2006 ST1300. I got the fluid measurement wrong the first time around. I measured with the spring and spacer in and the tube extended. I rolled the bike off the center stand and it was almost solid with no compression. Pulled it all back apart. Reworked the fluid measurement. It's better now.

I have a new filter for an oil change and I am going to replace the brake fluid. I am nursing a very sore knee from getting up and down on the garage floor so I may take my time.

cleaned up the Mighty ST 1300 aired up the tires then rode to the gas station and put $22 worth of premium in the tank, the cell is about half full. once back home i removed the left rear tail light housing on the Mustang to replace a burnt out bulb. all of that started triggering vertigo so i came in and laid down

Unjammed my rear brakes on the new bike - someone previously replaced the pads and the ends opposite the screw in pin were not "up" in their position properly, so the whole lot were binding! took them out, popped them back in, now my rear wheel spins like a charm

I was able to get out late in the day when I was planning on taking each of my three bikes on about a half hour loop, over to the freeway, up a couple of exits and returning. When I got on the freeway with the first bike ,the gl1800, I got into some really bad traffic and there was worse on the return side so I decided to ride it out a while and eventually when it didn’t improve go around the long way. Ended up riding out into the Gorge and around behind Mt Hood then home through the forest.
I did the same thing the next day, yesterday, with the ST1300 but much later in the evening. Very enjoyable ride getting down to 46F at coldest but felt so refreshing.

Well, I knocked the '94 ST1100 apart...

Used rather infrequently, and I was never really happy how it ran... top performance at high RPM but the crappy fluctuating idling got annoying...

So first off with the valve covers, to check if there is anything loose/obvious for causing those altering valve train noises...
Nothing shows, will re-check valve clearances next w/e... cold engine then...

So, off with the carbs... and indeed #1 had some and #3 had noticeable obstructed idle jets... (confirmed by #3 spark plug picture...)
Inspected all, ran carb cleaner and compressed air through everything, also had the idle set screws out and replaced the O-rings* in there...
(* will have to check where to get those individually; I had to nick them out some NOS Keyster kits I still had on the shelf)

I also dared to open the tops to inspect the diaphragms and sliders... all in top order...

I would have a spare set of low mileage cams in stock, so I'm currently mulling over if its wise to do a swap or not...
Seal a new set of cover gaskets in, to again end up with the sounds of shaking a bag of cloth-pins... dunno yet...

I pulled the ST1300 apart to add a usb charger and to try and troubleshoot why the gps wasn’t working. I ended up using this article to choose a power source for the gps when I found the wire broken off and no visible source of power connection. Had to be one I just couldn’t find it. The usb charger had a plug that easily plugged into an available source on the bike I’m assuming the quartet harness that looks custom made (from the prior owner maybe)?IMG_7414.jpegIMG_7410.jpegIMG_7412.jpeg

Friday, removed the fuel vacuum valve, and then disassembled it , was in okay shape. So not the intermittent rough running under acceleration. Went for a ride to favorite toy store "Princess Auto". Got Plastic Bond and 3M outdoor double sided tape, both on sale for about half normal price. Tuesday ordering a new fuel filter and Air filter and most likely clean carbs sometime soon. Found some dirt in the valve so probably some in the carbs. The joys of bike ownership.IMG_6848.jpg

Two weeks ago I headed out on a 9-day trek across Southern Arizona, Southern New Mexico, Central Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and back through Nw Mexico to home in the Phoenix area. 2922 miles and had a great time meeting up with friends along the way. The wind blew badly in New Mexico and Texas, the Ozarks in Arkansas are beautiful, and I had to out run some terrible thunderstorms in Oklahoma. But overall it was a GREAT trip!
