I guess deer are only one hazard out there. Now we have elk to worry about. One good thing about meeting a moose on a road in Maine, if you duck your head you can drive UNDER him.

During OkieSTOC I saw 3 armadillo, one was walking across the road, and 3 dogs wandered across the road like they owned it. At least they were slow enough to avoid.

I saw something partially laying in the road from a distance. As I got closer I saw that it was a very large wild hog that somebody had hit. I sure am glad it was not me! And where you see one, there are probably more. They are not picky about what they eat either. :eek1:

Elk have been a big problem on the Rim in AZ for years... the herds seem to gather at the roadside at dusk.

Saw the biggest bull elk I have ever seen just outside Pine AZ the other day blocking both lanes. Around the corner there was a heard of about 30 on both sides of the road and in the middle of the road. This was early in the morning.

Here, we have to watch for moose, deer, elk, mountain lions and bear. You don't want to hit a griz here. He wins every time :)

Florida we have deer, bear, armadillos, raccoons, and alligators. Not to mention wild hogs. Thankfully, most of the major roads, the right of ways are fenced to keep the larger animals mostly off. Not so with the secondary roads.

You guys out in the "country (living)", have nothing on the obstacles I have to dodge everyday!

They are large, some as big as a house, some as small as a large dog, but you can never underestimate their travel, nor how fast they will jump in front of you, without any notice!

Not only that, but most of them are protected by metal cages! :well1:

Just it just goes to show, no matter what roads you are on, you have to Keep Your Senses Alert At All Times! KYSAAAT

:doh1:

I can usually tell what some inattentive driver is going to do. I cannot tell what a deer is going to do. I hate those things!! I had 3 run into me in the last 3 years. I have 2 totaled bikes and 1 almost totaled body.

Ah, so you are trying to out do Shuey? He has destroyed a couple of ST1300 he's owned by aiming for deer!

And BTW, there is no way to tell where a SoCal Commuter is going to go...Some of these animals are extremely unpredictable! :well1:

Being a Midwestern all my life I was really amused when I seen a dead armadillo and tumbleweeds in Texas as they blew in front of me. Man those things were big.

In Oz, the roos tend to gather by the side of the rode at night and are as likely to hop out as not. Made for a very nervous 250 mile drive from Perth to Geraldton one night. Granted it was in a car, but I didn't have roo bars, and even so.....:scared2:

Do roo bars work? From what I've seen of PM pictures of deer/car accidents, they sometimes go up over the hood and take out the driver by entering through the windshield. Yes, its hard on the deer, but they only do this once. I would think all your strong bars up front do is protect the grille and radiator. After, all, kangaroos move by bounding along. Don't cars hit them mid leap?
