Saw the biggest bull elk I have ever seen just outside Pine AZ the other day blocking both lanes. Around the corner there was a heard of about 30 on both sides of the road and in the middle of the road. This was early in the morning.Elk have been a big problem on the Rim in AZ for years... the herds seem to gather at the roadside at dusk.
I can usually tell what some inattentive driver is going to do. I cannot tell what a deer is going to do. I hate those things!! I had 3 run into me in the last 3 years. I have 2 totaled bikes and 1 almost totaled body.
Do roo bars work? From what I've seen of PM pictures of deer/car accidents, they sometimes go up over the hood and take out the driver by entering through the windshield. Yes, its hard on the deer, but they only do this once. I would think all your strong bars up front do is protect the grille and radiator. After, all, kangaroos move by bounding along. Don't cars hit them mid leap?In Oz, the roos tend to gather by the side of the rode at night and are as likely to hop out as not. Made for a very nervous 250 mile drive from Perth to Geraldton one night. Granted it was in a car, but I didn't have roo bars, and even so.....![]()

In Maine I saw moose roadkill . That’s the only moose I saw the entire trip that summer.
Ain't photoshop fun?
