I know there are a billion tire discussions out there, but thought I would put this out there since I have been trying to find matched sets of highly recommended tire types for my new to me ST 1300, and find that many of the highly recommended tires don't come in sizes for both front and back. I put the attached doc together off of a generic tire web site. I only included tires specific to sport touring bikes, so I am sure I left off someone's favorite tires. I also did not put in any Shinko tires, although I know some folks like them. My personal experience with them is why I am shopping -- they came on my new to me 2007, and still had good tread at about 6,000 miles. After the 400 mile trek home, admittedly at or about 85 MPH the entire way, they had many 2" or so blisters all over the tread patch on the front tire. Despite the decent remaining tread, I yet again proved my guardian Angel is on the top of his game. don't even want to think about a front tire blowout at 110 MPH. So for that reason I did not list any Shinkos. My apologies to all who swear by them. I will admit they handled very well.

The doc lists 4 "orphan" rear tires - available for rear tire size, but not front, 1 "orphan" front tire, not available for rear in factory size; and 7 sets where both front and back are available.

Not plugging for any of them, But I do have Dunlop 3's on ST One, and I am fairly happy with them so far.

Please let me know if you have another brand/model you really like that is available in factory size for front and back. I need tires before I can take the "IGOFAR" on the road again...and it's spring in the Rockies...and the mountains are calling......

That's outstanding. Bravo! :headbang:

Would you be willing to do the same thing for non-ABS 1100? :pray1:

110/80x18 and 160/70x17

Were your tire pressures set at around 42psi? The only time I ever had blistering on a tire (car) was when my car was heavily loaded, the tire pressure was low (measured after the fact), it was a hot day, and many hours of constant driving. My error - I should have bumped the pressure up a few pounds before I left home and not pushed the speed.

Michelin Road 6?, Dunlop Road Smart 3? Bridgestone Battlax T33? Conti Road Attack 4? These came from a quick look at Revzilla. Some were out of stock and I only looked for sizes - not weight or speed ratings.

I'll give it a shot.

Michelin, Dunlop and Bridgestone all showed up, but the road attack didn't list one of the sizes. I suspect it may vary based on source, but the shop I went to listed about 25 tire brands.

On the tires that blistered, let me give a little fuller set up.

- pressure started at 42 for the 400 miles, and when I got home I did not see anything weird with the tires. just me on the bike at 215 pounds, maybe 20 pounds of "conveying other stuff" in the trunk. nothing but straight lines except for Raton pass, and I was NOT cranking through the twisties on that part.
- due to the CO weather and schedules, did not get a chance to really ride again, but I did get it out to do my traditional "get to know you" routine - about an hour and a half of just doing figure 8's, low speed tight turns, and zooming around the hangar farm at the airport where there is absolutely no traffic and no gravel, and about half a square mile of good concrete. Still did not notice anything unusual. Handled like a dream, to be fair, but that, as they say, may be largely the bike, not the tires.
- Took it about a total of 10 miles round trip to get the VIN verification done to register - straight lines, low speeds, nothing challenging at all, and when I was putting the cover back on I saw these "goose eggs" all over the front, and cupping and a little delam on the rear. I keep the bike covered, even in the hangar, at all times, so I am pretty sure I would have seen the goose eggs while pulling the cover down over the front if they had been there before. Here's the really weird thing - an hour later they had all gone down distinctly.

I have had one set of tires do this in the past, but only on sidewalls. Those were new Pirelli's on my 280ZX Turbo back in about 1987. Tires all properly inflated, only me in the car, no luggage, but absolutely pounding it through the west Texas hills. Started hearing weird thumps in right hand turns, stopped to look for what was going on, and saw two huge delams on the inside sidewalls. Discount tire swapped them out for Goodyears with no arguments.

I've had great success with Bridgestone's since 2009
BT33's are the 2025 models

I'm still on the BT32's with great success, 2023 models.
Check as there are rebates going on right now for a set of Bridgestone's.

Here's the best picture of the tire blister. This was after it had cooled down a little and shrank a little. just about dead center in the tread patch. There were quite a few of them, all over the tire. Freaky, right?

My first Shinko had to come off at 700 miles due to cracking and not because of age, they replaced the tire under there warranty and sent me a new one, I said it would never go on but when my Dunlop had 7,000 miles with the front tire looking good thinking what are the odds of getting two bad tires, well after 250 miles it had to come off. I did post pictures of both tires on this site, I’m with you no Shinko’s.

the T33's don't have both sizes, but the T32's would come down to $362 delivered with the $60 rebate for the T-32s That's pretty good!

These people drive me nuts. I was on their web site, looking at the rebate details, and went to check availability for the T33, and they didn't show it. Perhaps they are still adding sizes as they spin up production, so it didn't show as available, even though it is in the plan and thus on the brochure. As long as someone is making them I can resist the restless urge to stock up.

Any way it goes, last year's top of the line is better than the tires that have the tread delaminating. I don't ride hard enough at this point to challenge last year's tire technology.
