I know there are a billion tire discussions out there, but thought I would put this out there since I have been trying to find matched sets of highly recommended tire types for my new to me ST 1300, and find that many of the highly recommended tires don't come in sizes for both front and back. I put the attached doc together off of a generic tire web site. I only included tires specific to sport touring bikes, so I am sure I left off someone's favorite tires. I also did not put in any Shinko tires, although I know some folks like them. My personal experience with them is why I am shopping -- they came on my new to me 2007, and still had good tread at about 6,000 miles. After the 400 mile trek home, admittedly at or about 85 MPH the entire way, they had many 2" or so blisters all over the tread patch on the front tire. Despite the decent remaining tread, I yet again proved my guardian Angel is on the top of his game. don't even want to think about a front tire blowout at 110 MPH. So for that reason I did not list any Shinkos. My apologies to all who swear by them. I will admit they handled very well.
The doc lists 4 "orphan" rear tires - available for rear tire size, but not front, 1 "orphan" front tire, not available for rear in factory size; and 7 sets where both front and back are available.
Not plugging for any of them, But I do have Dunlop 3's on ST One, and I am fairly happy with them so far.
Please let me know if you have another brand/model you really like that is available in factory size for front and back. I need tires before I can take the "IGOFAR" on the road again...and it's spring in the Rockies...and the mountains are calling......
