Helmets New Shoei RF-1100

i bought one, I get it in a week from now (approx) ... I'm 'retiring' my RF1000 to commuter / track day duties ... the 1000 has approx 120-150k on it so far and I think for touring I'll get something new ... I got it in the OP's axis yellow color, I plan on taking black refelective tape to it and making my own design...

That's a good idea. So you take this:

and do it like a Motorrad helmet..

Do they sell kits for that?

Yep!

Really on the fence for a new helmet. The contenders are an RF-1000, Nolan N43, or a Nolan N103. Yes three different styles... The later two I have not tried on and am looking for a dealer. My main concern is helmet height. I had a Arai Quantum on and it fit well on the head but my jaw extended below the chin bar.

I just went from a Quantum II to a RF1000. The Arai chinbar felt like it covered much more of my face than the Shoei does.

?? Do you mean the Shoei covered more?

Rob, I own a RF1000 I find it a bit short from top to bottom. I really have to pull down on the front to get my chin under the wind protector. My Bell Apex had a lot more room. However the RF1000 is quiet, cool, and much more comfortable.
My next helmet I will pay a little more attention to things like that.

Let me see he says that the Arai chinbar felt like it covered much more of my face than the Shoei does

How hard is that to understand ?

The chin bars on Shoeis starting with the RF-800 were worthy of Jay Leno, which makes the "did you mean the Shoei?" question perfectly legitimate.

There was no need to be insulting about it.

I wasn't being insulting, the description given as to which one covered more of his face was very clear.

I'm wanting a really nice modular, like the Shark Evoline, but I hear it's heavy....like 5 lbs but balanced well....

I want a helmet that will be a good full face, but the jaw part when lifted up, I want it to be streamlined to act as a true 3/4, like the Evoline, but lightweight.......

Problem I have seen with a lot of the modular helmets is just that, weight. They are all pretty heavy. The supposedly lightest one is the Schubert C3 which you can't buy here of course :(

I have the RF-1000 and love it for the exception of one spot pushing on the lower part of my left ear. Very annoying. I have tried everything, including taking out the insert and melting the styrofoam with a soldering iron. Still, there is that one spot that I can't get rid of. I think I'll try the ARAI when SHOEI is ready to be replaced.

Or have that part of your ear removed;)

I just came back from picking up a new (old) RF1000 at a decent price. I tried on one of the 1100s, and didn't feel a significant difference. It might be a little lighter. Perhaps because they drilled two extra vent holes in the top. I have been using a Caberg Justisimo modular for a couple of years after spending years in a Shoei RFR. The comfort factor for me made me go back to Shoei. The new Shoeis are as good as last year's models, but if price is a factor, I would grab one of the 1000s while they last at the sale price.

I can see the convenience of the modular, especially if one wears glasses, but the noise factor is something to consider. Shoei has a top notch modular, but I was just looking to go back to a solid.

Hmmm, well it wasn't clear to me if he was suggesting the chinbar covered more on the chin side or the nose side. But yeah, I also thought you were a bit rough on your response as well.

Didn't mean to be rough, but I didn't consider the top of the chinbar as being a consideration. I suppose it is though as the opening could be wider or narrower which will have an effect on field of view.

He did say the Arai covered more of his face, just didn't specify if it was up to the eyes or down to the chin. The Arai covering more face area than the Shoei was pretty clear though.

I guess I should have used the whole quote since the two sentances seemed disjoined:

I just went from a Quantum II to a RF1000. The Arai chinbar felt like it covered much more of my face than the Shoei does.

He stated he switched from the (Arai) Quantum to a (Shoei) RF1000 because the Arai felt like it covered more of his face than the Shoei. I suppose you could assume the writer wanted less face coverage, but I write things reversed sometimes so figured I was reading it wrong or one of the two sentences was reversed.

I expected something like:

a) "I just went from a Quantum II to a RF1000. The Shoei chinbar felt like it covered much more of my face than the Arai does."

b) "I just went from a RF1000 to a Quantum II . The Arai chinbar felt like it covered much more of my face than the Shoei does."

My personal experience was that the Quantum was really comfortable except for my jaw hanging out.
