Breathable, Windproof Rain Gear Recommendations?

Is the Cycleport (or Motoport) Aero-tex rain jacket breathable?

I didnt buy that particular jacket so I cant offer up a response. I bought the air mesh Kevlar jacket and still havent pulled the trigger on rain gear yet. I did take a quick look at Uncle Phil's Rain Man gear this past weekend. He says it is breathable, works well at keeping you dry and in his words "you wont shake and bake" when you have it on in warmer temps.
 
I also use Frog Toggs. They are light, breathable, cool, and visible (Yellow). I have been in some very heavy downpours (not 12 hours straight), and remained completely dry. They are large enough to go over the gear, so they do flap some in the breeze, but this has not bothered me excessively.

Well, either my new hi-viz ANSI reflective rain jacket leaks at the stiches where the reflective stripes are sewn on or having the Aerostich Triple Digit rain gloves over the sleeves let water seep in (I am guessing the later) but my arms and hands got soaked on the way home from FS this Sunday. When i stopped for gas after 200 some miles, I took the TD rain gloves off and poured about a half a bottle of water out of them. That SUCKED. They are just too useless to put them on first, then the rain jacket and have them inside the jacket sleeves - once you get the TD's over your normal gloves there's not much control to do anything with your fingers, like zip a jacket, or other things. I have never really been satisfied with the TD's the whole time I've had them. If I had it to do over, I'd not buy them again. I think I will look for some rubber gloves that will fit over my normal riding gloves - still haven't found some that will do that yet though.

On a side note - the pants that UP gave me, that belonged to Paul Narramore from the UK, worked great in the rain. I believe they are UK Police Issue pants. Hi-viz with reflective stripes around the legs and pack down pretty well. I've got to find the matching jacket to them if I can.

Ethyl Vinyl Acetate sp? I think the "brag" part is does not use the same alleged toxic chemicals as PVC.

Frog Toggs are 3 layers of Polypropylene DriPore middle layer has micropores simliar to gortex aka ptfe aka polytetraflouroethylene sp? aka teflon. Not sure how the middle layer of the DriPore sandwich can work with a solid layer on either side of it?

The pants are well made and the custom sizing that they offered was very important to me. I ordered a 36" inseam length to get the cuff down over the top of my boot.

The stiching was well done and the pants had a nice liner inside to make them easier to get on and off.

I wore them around outside today in 70F and they felt really nice and not hot at all but it was not a steamy day.


Hopefully I will get to test the waterproof feature soon.

So right now I'm giving them a A+ :D
 
Anyone use the BMW rainlock jacket
these look pretty good and although expensive, by the time I pay shipping/duty etc the firstgear rainman ends up being same price. I tried to pick the rainman up last time I was touring down south but couldnt find a dealer that stocked them.. ..

I just went ahead and sprung for the Areo-tex Rain Jacket too. I got it in Friday and first thoughts well made. Light super nice product. The areo-tex rain gear is suppose to be garenteed to be 100% water-proof for life. Clycleport was super to deal with. Jacket was a little expensive but anything good is expensive.

I'll give a better review when I get into some rain with them.
