Catching Odometer Numbers while Riding

I rolled 098765 4321 on my '93 STeed this summer, then 100,000 on the Cherohala Skyway during the 2013 Blue Ridge Gathering - thanks for the great rides Uncle Phil! My next odometer 'milestone' will be 123456 7890.

The question is... will it see 200K before mine does? I raced your father to 150K. I live in New England, where snow and ice tend to slow down the riding a bit in January and Feb.... and still beat him!

I have a second bike now though... the miles aren't going onto my old horse as fast as they were. (And I need to take her off the road to do a timing belt and clutch job that I expect to take at least 2 weekends with her off the road for the week in between.)

I am at 176 right now, so you are already ahead of me.

Be careful there Son, This Gal is no push over, even tho she lives in the cold North East! :D

well lets see i just went and looked i have 21,829 miles to go before i would be at 200k so that will take me about a yr to put on it since i work close to work and it just got all rainy here...

Rain?!?!? Do I hear whining? I have to ride in snow to put those kinds of miles on.... rain?!?! My gear is water proof, I don't think rain even catches my attention when its forecasted unless the temps are under 35 degrees!

I told you, she's no push over! ;)

no whining, well maybe a little, and of course its the wife who tells me no riding in the rain... i dont mind riding in rain or shine.

LOL, I made my boy friend so angry one night last year he couldn't even talk to me when I rode 30 miles to his house in the rain. It was about 40 degrees and way past dark. Yup it was a cold, dark, wet night... so what, I have gear. He was genuinely livid.... "I just fixed your car, why won't you drive it?!?!?!" The madder he got the funnier I thought it was. Laughing at him only fueled his anger. I was really surprised at how angry he was, and how poor he thought my decision to ride was.

From my point of view... no threat of ice, I need to be 30 miles away... ride. No decision to make. It took some time and some serious efforts to try an appreciate the other person's opinion. He's right, it was dangerous. And given the chance tomorrow, I'd still ride. I just wish it wouldn't upset him so much. He cares, hard to fault the man for caring. But its pretty clear that he doesn't get what drives me to saddle up every day and "go ride".

If he doesn't ride or if he does ride, but not long distance, he'll never understand! :eek:4:

I love those ever changing digits......
And all those infernal patterns...
:eek:::confused::D

But most of all I love riding a machine that just keeps logging in those numbers without hassles........

Today's catch.

but he just doesn't get it. Never will either.

Wow. As disappointing as that may be I hope he at least will resign himself to what makes you happy. No one wants to get "that phone call". We can talk about gear, lights, hi-viz, defensive driving blah blah blah. In the end you're on two wheels without benefit of a protective shell. And even they fail some times.

You try not to take senseless risks, exercise reasonable care but you are still at risk. But it's what makes you happy. Riding is a form of freedom unmatched by anything except maybe flying. Even grounded two wheels allow spirits to soar. You take your chances and appreciate what you can while you can.

It may not be easy for him but I hope your boyfriend learns to accept what makes you happy and be grateful and appreciate that a wonderful girl is willing to show up at his door on a cold, wet, rainy night and that she doesn't need a car to do it.

Sorry for the bunny trail.
